The Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs’ (AMCHP) State Public Health Autism Resource Center (SPHARC) is excited to host “The Black Side of Autism” on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 from 11-12 pm PST.
Maria Davis-Pierre, President & CEO of Autism in Black, will lead this informative and engaging workshop that looks at autism from a cultural perspective and addresses stigma around autism within the Black community. Workshop participants will:
· Learn the importance of cultural competence and the important role it plays in the Black disability community
· Gain knowledge on how your own biases and unknown ableist views may affect your work
· Learn how to have culturally responsible discussions with parents and educators
Title V MCH & CYSHCN leaders, autistic individuals and their families, students and peer mentors, public health professionals, and others wanting to learn more about supporting and accepting autistic individuals are encouraged to participate.
