- Special Education: 10 Tips for Advocating for Your Child with Rachel Nemhauser
Description: Join us for a dynamic and easy to understand presentation describing the critical information you need to know in order to effectively engage with your child’s education. Topics include a brief overview of special education law, important definitions, the IEP process, evaluations, using data effectively, facing challenging behaviors, high school transition, conflict resolution, working with the IEP team, how COVID -19 impacts special education and more. There will be plenty of time for questions, and parents with a range of experience levels are encouraged to attend.
Presenter’s Bio: Rachel is the Community and Family Support Program Manager at The Arc of King County. She has been an active member of the disability community since 2009 and feels passionate about supporting families through all the joys and challenges of raising their children. She is a former member of the Washington State DD Council, and has been the Supervisor of Parent to Parent of King County since 2015. Rachel is also the parent of a 16 year old autistic son, and writes about her experiences being Nate’s mom on her blog https://nemhouse.com. - Each session will be recorded and posted on the WA State Fathers Network website.
