Tools to Classify Motor Abilities:
- Gross Motor Functional Classification System (GMFCS)
- Standardized system for classifying severity of movement disability in children with CP across five age levels - under 2 years of age, 2 to 4 years, 4 to 6 years, 6 to 12 years and over 12 years of age (adolescent, currently under development)
- Range of ability from Level I (perform all actiivities as age-matched peers albeit with speed, balance and/or coordination difficulty) to Level V (difficulty controlling head and trunk in most positions and difficulty achieving voluntary control of movement)
- Bi-Manual Fine Motor Function
Scale (BFMF)
- Assesses upper extremity function in cerebral palsy
- Manual Ability Classification System (MACS)
- Measurement of ability to handle objects
- Functional Mobility Scale (FMS)
- Measures changes in walking ability over three distances (5, 50 and 500 meters)
